A Raven named Mary Sue.
May. 21st, 2006 01:04 amUm, yeah. I haven't felt motivated enough to work on teh p0rn, sorry, but I have been working on the next chapter of Remodeling Lives. So it's all good. One thing I wanted to ask, would it be too corny for me to name a raven Mary Sue? Because I want to (right now she's named Neille, after a 'Alala I met in Hawaii), but calling her Sue or Mary, or even Mary Sue would be justice. Justice after all those horrible Mary Sues named Ravyn. Or something.
Lately at work we've been getting an assortment of wildlife in. First a baby squirrel that was found after its mom was found dead in a bucket of water. The new parents are hand raising it, but they're the organic-artsy-fartsy-every-formulated-diet-is-ebol type that feeds raw foods (mostly meat) to their dog, and while that's fine for their dog it probably isn't fine for a baby squirrel. I'm hoping that they get some advice from the Audubon Society of Portland, but I don't know really what they are doing.
The other critter to come in is what looks like a Mountain Bluebird, which is totally wrong for this area. The lady who brought him in found him outside with his wing half-ripped off, and took him to her (non-avian) vet. The vet had to remove the wing, but couldn't identify the bird for her. I told her to take it to the Backyard Bird Shop as most of those folks would be able to ID a wild bird like that. It’s on antibiotics (necessary as it was probably attacked by a cat, cats have a bacteria on their teeth and claws that can make a small animal go septic in 48 hours or less). I didn't want to send her to another vet like the Avian Medical Center as it's generally not good to switch treatment unless there's a compelling reason, and the bird looked like it was in good hands. I'm hoping the lady comes back and tells me if they positively IDed it for her. Technically it's illegal to keep a native bird like that, but somehow I doubt the wildlife officials are going to be busting down the door of a granny who it just trying to help a little bird.
Speaking of work, I got my yearly review, and I got all fives. I'm actually amazed I scored so high, since I have a Mom Voice that drives nearly all my coworkers nuts. (I hate my Mom Voice. I'm not a mom, and I shouldn't have that voice, but I do. Humph) Anyways, this means that as soon as all the paperwork goes through I'll get a raise. I forgot to ask how much. I'm hoping that it's enough to push me into the $8/hr range. I might, possibly, be able to afford an apartment of my own, then.
