I got my violin.

It's a student violin from Czechoslovakia, from the violin making region so it's decently made. I got it for $200 off Craigslist with the money my parents gave me. I also bought a tuner and music, stand etc. The tuner is an electronic one that tells you what note you're playing and whether it's sharp or flat, I'm not used to this kind, the kind I used in school was the sort you blow through. Anyways, it says my instrument is tuned, but something sound off, especially the G string. Maybe its just my cold, my ears are kinda plugged. Anyways, the tuner is good because it will help me with my fingering, my old violin I relied on those white stripes on the fingerboard, which is something only beginner violinists do.

Playing a violin is not quite like riding a bicycle, while I was the best in my class in middle school (and good enough to join the local children's Philharmonic, although I never did) I'm still kinda wobbly. Part of it is the cold, I think, I just feel like shit and I didn't get enough sleep last night for TMI reasons. Anyways, I hope I pick it up soon.

My Big Plan is on days I don't have work to get my butt downtown and busk on a street corner for change. You don't see many violinists and apparently women do better then men busking. I also ordered a another violin, a really cheap $50 one that probably sounds like shit, off of ebay. The advantages to that one are that I won't mind taking it out into the sort of drizzle Portland is known for since it was so cheap, and it's BLUE, which I think is better for busking. (weird colors and clothing stand out more, and get more money). Once it's get's here I'll save my better violin for nice days with good crowds, and use the blue one for crappy days and to attract attention.

I may even go into costume, I have a couple corsets, so maybe I could do the whole 'Pirate Wench' thing. Learn some fiddle tunes.

First I got to beat this cold, though.
