Found dog.

platedlizardLost animals seem to find me. Last time it was a cockatiel that I was able to reunite with it's owners. This time it's a female Akita.
I got up at the unbelievably early hour of seven am because I had to be at work at my usual wake-up time, 9 am. I'm feeling like shit because I'm getting a cold, and I wondered if I should just call in sick. That's when I spotted what appeared to be a small white polar bear curled up on our front porch. By 'small' I mean ~50lbs.
I could hear Mom in her room talking and stuff, so I called out to her.
"Mom," I said. "There's a dog on our front porch!"
"The polar bear? I know about it, we're, uh, kinda busy."
Interrupted mid-coitus, hehe. I love doing that to my parents. I'm surprised they don't kick me out of the house.
Anyways, I work at PetSmart, which has a Banfield, the Pet Hospital. And Banfield, unlike every other vet in the area is not only open Sunday, but also on Christmas Eve. I decide to take her in to get scanned, and decided that since I was there I might as well get paid, too. Fortunately I had the foresight to request a four-hour shift today, which was good since by the end I felt like shit warmed over. The dog has no microchip, and no collar. Her teeth look awful, rotten and abscessed. If I find her owner I will definitely be bringing up both points to him or her. We think she's getting elderly due to the teeth and to the fact that her eyes are developing bluing. She seemed fine with our cats (who were NOT fine with her), and people, but growled a bit at the one dog I introduced her to.
Currently she is on our front porch. We jury-rigged a gate out of chicken wire to keep her in. She can't go inside the house due to a new carpet and two cats who are most upset over her presence. If I can't find her home in a week I will have to locate a home for her. I don't want to take her to the pound, but the Bonnie Hays Small Animal Shelter works with the county, and if I have to I might insist that they take her. I don't want her put down for getting lost.
