We're supposed to do that (without swearing at the customer, of course). We can't refuse to sell non-living supplies, but we're supposed to refuse to sell live animals if we don't think the would-be-owner is any good. My store has a policy that says that only the feeder fish, and crickets, meal worms, etc are supposed to be sold as food, all the mice and rats are pet-only here. Some of our customer's don't like that either. Too bad for them, they can go to Petco as far as I am conserned.
