My sister's coming home!
Mar. 16th, 2006 12:19 pmThe Wacky Iraqi is back! My sister called us last week from Camp Lejune, she'd just come in from Iraq, and apparently HATES intercontenantel flights now. I suspect the only way Dad is going to be able to take her to Africa this summer is via First Class, and I don't blame her. She's going to be coming in this Monday for two weeks leave, and she'll be staying with us! I'm so excited. I have NO idea what we're going to do. The weather has been nasty. (Srsly, is SNOWED last week. Snow! In March! In Portland! OMGWTFBBQ!)
The skiing, however, has been GREAT. Today's my birthday, and I made Dad promice to take me to the mountains tomarrow for skiing/hanging out in Timberline Lodge. I think on my days off I'll be hauling Sis places, and at least one of them will be the mountains. With any luck I'll have chains for my car by then.
The Search for a Job continues. I got switched off Specialty for Cashier (a step down, but it means more hours) because one of the cashiers quit without telling a manager. Um, oops. So I get to be a cashier until they hire someone else. Yay. Actually I'm glad, the main filtration system is failing, and I hate looking at the fish because I feel so bad that they are getting sick and dying because the system SUCKS. Suposedly we're going to get a plumber in Real Soon Now, as soon as the damn parts come in. Bah.
The new black lionhead goldfish are kind cool, though. People keep feeding them the color enhancing goldfish food so they aren't going to be black for long. A hint for anyone who wants their black goldfish to stay black. Feed them spirulina, use a UVB light on their tank, and never feed them any 'color enhancing' food. That stuff enchances the gold/red color most goldfish have, and will cause black goldfish to CHANGE COLOR. So there.
A place I worked at a few years ago for X-mas season is hiring for a full time position. I sent in a resume and cover letter that basically said "Remember me? i worked for you a couple years ago and you liked me. I'd love to work for you again!" so I hope i'll be hearing from them. They pay really well, especially compared to other retail stores. They sell wild bird supplies, food, feeders, guides, binoculars and spotting scopes, garden sculptures, etc. There's a whole CHAIN of these store in my area, all locally owned. And they keep opening a new store every year. They also do things like have free birdwatching guided walks, raise money for the Portland Auduobon Society, etc. Good folks. I hope like hell they'll hire me.

Skiing! You're so lucky. I want to take more time off to go boarding before the snow melts, but with this work presentation I might not be able to do it. Wah. ;__;
Congrats on your sister coming back. ^^

Date: 2006-03-16 10:59 pm (UTC)If you miss the snow take a vacation this summer and come to Mt. Hood. Timberline has year-round skiing/boarding thanks to the Palmer Glacier. Skiing in August is fun! Be sure to bring your sunscreen, though.
