its a monday
Feb. 11th, 2008 08:03 pmSo, lets see...
In my last post I mentioned how I've been having trouble sleeping. Sunday I realized I was feeling pretty wired despite being very careful to NOT have any sort of caffeine whatsoever. Even a cup of green tea in the morning. SO I decided to do the smart thing and take some OTC sleeping pills and get my butt into bed waaay earlier then i usually do to make sure I get enough sleep and to allow them to wear off naturally. In bed by 9:30, asleep by ten ought to give me a full eight hours until I have to get up.
Only problem is, I set the wrong alarm. I woke up at 7:40am, instead of six. 7:40! I have to be ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FUCKING CITY at 8. I think I set some kind of record for getting my ass into scrubs and out the door, but, as it turned out, I probably would have done better if I just spent a couple extra minutes showering and eating breakfast. I hit morning rush hour traffic well before the Terwilliger Curves and my car fucking crawled the rest of the way. I got there about 8:20, and totally ruined my attendance record on the second week. My classmates were all 'WTF'? since until then I had been the one who arrived a full forty minutes before class. I was pretty pissed.
After class I had enough time to shower and eat a bowl of cereal before my dental appointment. It was pretty sad, actually. My hygienist who I've had since I was a little kid told me that free dental cleanings are a benefit of working at a dental office, and that when I graduate I would have to be 'very careful' if I wanted to have my teeth cleaned by her again. Dentists have feelings too, and it would be pretty insulting if I chose to go to another dentist for my oral care. Which basically means that this dental appointment is probably the last one I'm going to have at this office, which I've been going to since I was five. So sad. (Although, if I need fillings and I work for a dentist that uses amalgam I'm either going to insist on one of the tooth-colored fillings or go back to Dr. Johnson, because I hate the look of amalgam). She didn't take any x-rays because there weren't any spots of concern in my last set and because I'm probably going to be x-rayed (for free!) when we get to that part of our curriculum.
After that I had a couple hours to study before I had to grab Birdi, one of my cockatiels, up and head over to my Avian Vet. The good news is that Birdi's protozoa infection has cleared up, and he doesn't seem to be in any pain from his arthritis, so no meds! Yay! My parakeet, 'Darelle', IS on medication, hir kidneys are still troubling her so she's back in a hospital cage with Allopurinol in the water. If he doesn't improve in 14 days then back to the vet we go.
Finished my homework at 7pm, but I have no idea how much I'll retain. I'll probably really learn this stuff when I start working in the lab and actually disinfect/sterilize things. Oh well.
