Well, I got here ok. We were wrong about it being near Hana, Makile (sp? I don't want to look it up) is more like it. The drive from the airport took maybe a half an hour. The weather here is pretty nice, it's not real hot up at the center, usually jeans T-shirt, and even a sweat shirt is what you need to wear here. It turns out that I really do need my boots, the ones here don't fit me very well, and I need my sheets! I also have to buy my own food.

I like the other people here. Mary is the Boss, Janessa, Karen, and Sharon are the other staff members. Janessa left early this morning with six of the thrushes for release, she's kind of interesting, the very first thing she said to me it 'Hi, I'm Janessa and I'm a bitch.' Well, at least she warned me! And really, she didn't seem all that bitchy, although the others assured me that she was. The others are really nice, though. My fellow Interns are Megan and Cassie (who is leaving us next week). Me and Megan currently share a room, but not for long. In May we are getting a 28 year old ex-Marine named Patrick! It will be nice to have a guy around here, or interesting anyways.

Yesterday Karen trained me on Nene (the goose), they were fairly easy AND THEY DON"T BITE AT ALL!!, there are fifteen babies, five of which are nearly full grown, and ten that are half grown. The older five are brats and terrorize the younger ones to get the lettuce. There is one other baby, who is too young to leave his parents yet, and he is *super* cute.

Today Karen trained me on Forest birds. We have a pair of Maui Parrot Bills, and six Puaihoi (the thrush) which are four pairs and two singles. I think these guys are more interesting then geese. I got here just in time to miss the six juvies that left for release, so clean up was a snap. Today we put up nests for one pair of Puaihoi and took care of wax worms. I think I'm going to be doing more bug stuff for birds in the next six months then I ever did for my two plated lizards in a year!

I got here just in time, in a couple of days they'll be training me for 'Alala (the crow). New people cannot be trained on 'Alala during nesting season as it might disturb the birds. Cassie had to wait three months to train on them when she came in!

That's all for now. Aloha!

The boy is a toad, plays everyday on his cage and laid my thumb open the other day. The others are doing well and Pam will be out on Tuesday so I think (unless you object) I'll have her do a light clip on Wesley. Have fun, learn a lot and rest easy the birds are fine.

LOL, he never bites me! Just tell him that Mommy says No Biting! Go ahead and give him a trim, five feathers back usually grounds him just fine. Some of the 'tiels might need it too. If you can, have Pam check Birdi, he is pretty old and I would feel more comfortable having him get a 'geezer bird' exame.

Things are pretty good here. I've already learned a lot. Thanks for taking care of the fids.
