I'm one of those gals who breaks out about a week before her period, and if I could afford I would try birth control pills to get rid of them. The problem is, A) I'm poor, and only get a discount, not co-pay on my perscriptions, and B) I'm really, really bad about taking pills everyday. Topical prescribtion stuff only dried my skin out. So I've been trying every over-the-counter acne wash under the sun, and nothing worked. Either they dried my skin out, or they worked for a couple weeks and then gave up in the face of my On-Coming Period Face.

A couple weeks ago I was at Rite Aid, and noticed something familar. It was a bottle of Hibiclens, aka chlohexidine gluconate. When I was in Hawaii we used this shit to wash our hands after handling quarintined birds, we also added it to the drinking water for some of the geese to help clean out their eyes and kill any avian pox virus that might be shed in the water when they craped/took a bath. This shit is also used in hospitals by doctors to scrub their hands or prepare surgical sites. In other words, this is a heavy-duty anti-biotic cleanser. Something clicked. Zits are caused by bacterial infections, aren't they? So I bought it, and I've been washing my face with it, scrubbing for 15 seconds, 2-3 times a day.

Yesterday I started my period. No new zits. I also have the really bad habit of picking my face so on the same trip to Rite Aid I picked up some generic triple antibotic ointment, which I apply to any spots after I washed my face with the Hibiclens. My face, for the first time since I was 12, is starting to heal up. I don't have to cake the makeup on to look like a human anymore. I am so happy!

Like everyone and their dog I would like to be a published author. I have some original stuff, which I will not be posting here in the vain hope that someday I can sell it. Most publishers, from what I heard, don't like work to be 'published' anywhere prior to them publishing it, which means 'posted to the web'. Anyways, like a good schoolgirl (actually, I was a horrible student, but that's niether here nor there) I've been doing research on the world of publishing. Turns out there are quite a few jerks out there who would love to seperate you from your hard-earned dollers. Fortunately there are a number of good sites that help you sort the bad guys from the good guys.

Writers Beware A good source to find out what's going on with some of the badguys out there.

Preditors and Editors A very helpful listing of publishers, editors, and agents, good and bad. Before you sign that first contract, look here!

Absolute Write Full of good articles for the beginning and professional author. There is some excelent stuff here on first contracts, time management, how to deal with rejection, etc.

That's all for now, kids!

Gah. Zits. Die.

I've had them since I was 12...like EVERYONE. I started using benzaclin(Sp?) and then Proactive. They both work well for me, the only problem is that I'm too lazy to apply them to my face twice a day. I really hate having any kind of substance on my skin at all, I don't even like dry skil gel.

When I got birth control a year ago I thought it would be the end all problem to the break-outs I get, but no. It actually did nothing. Except what it's actually supposed to.
